Hellstone is found in the Underworld (otherwise known as Hell) in clusters. Hellstone Bars are made at an Iron or Lead Anvil using Hellstone and Obsidian. To craft a Molten Pickaxe, you’ll need 20 Hellstone Bars. Without a Molten Pickaxe, you won’t be able to mine any new ores unlocked in hardmode. The Hellstone Pickaxe is not a good choice unless it involves Ebonstone/Crimson Stone or Demonite/Crimtane Ore, or maybe Dungeon Block (is dungeon block 3 hits with Nightmare/Crimson? I forget). You could go for a Reaver Shark, but by the time you get the silly thing, you'd probably have finished whatever project you were on if you had just simply used the Nightmare/Crimson one. I'd have to say that for most stuff, Nightmare/Crimson Pickaxe is probably your best bet.
